Job Details

The City of St. Albert is hiring Aquatics Instructors (Level 2) to join the Recreation & Parks department’s Aquatic Programs team. These positions deliver Lifesaving Society Swim for Life lessons at Fountain Park Recreation Centre and Servus Credit Union Place.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service and create a positive experience for all participants.
• Develop and deliver inclusive lesson plans, adapting instruction to meet the needs of participants with diverse abilities.
• Maintain a safe and welcoming environment, monitor participant progress, and complete and distribute evaluations.
• Organize, clean, and set up equipment and supplies in designated areas.

Qualifications

• Swim for Life Instructor/Examiner certification from the Lifesaving Society.
• Additional aquatic experience and training are considered assets.
• Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and those who hold one or more of the following certifications: Lifesaving Instructor, National Lifeguard (NL), Intermediate First Aid (IFA), Oxygen Administration (O₂), SwimAbilities, JLC Coach, and/or Swim Coach Certification.

Hours of Work

• Instructors are needed for a variety of shifts and must be available to work a flexible schedule.
• Shifts are primarily scheduled on weekdays from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and weekends from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Some weekday shifts may also be available between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
• Instructors must work a minimum of eight hours per week, consisting of two four-hour shifts.

Compensation

The wage ranges from $23.48 to $28.54 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.

Term

This is a casual position with an end date of March 31, 2027, with a possibility of an extension.

Conditions of Employment

• The successful candidate will be required to provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
• The successful applicant will be required to obtain a clear vulnerable sector police information check.
