Opportunity
MacEwan University is seeking a Student Outreach Assistant, Digital Engagement for a casual opportunity with our Student Life department.
We are looking for a student who is enthusiastic about being a positive peer representative of Student Life and helping share the student experience through authentic, engaging content.
In this role, you will support peer-to-peer digital engagement for Student Life platforms and social media channels. Working under the guidance of Student Life staff, you will assist with content creation, moderation, and promotion of events and services, helping foster a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging online student community. This position is designed to elevate authentic student voice and provide meaningful, hands-on experience in digital engagement and campus communications.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring Student Life digital spaces and campus feeds;
- Drafting and publishing student-focused posts promoting events, services, and deadlines;
- Responding to routine student questions using approved messaging and guidelines;
- Encouraging student participation through polls, prompts, and engagement activities;
- Reviewing user-generated content and escalating concerns to Student Life staff;
- Creating digital graphics and visual content using Canva;
- Drafting captions and short-form content aligned with Student Life branding for approval;
- Collaborating with Student Life staff to brainstorm student-focused content ideas;
- Adapting content for different platforms while maintaining a student-centered tone; and
- Attending select Student Life events to capture photos/short videos and sharing approved content during or after events.
Skills
You will have:
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and appropriately with peers;
- Sound judgment in following guidelines and escalating issues when needed;
- A professional and respectful approach when engaging with students in person and online;
- The confidence to speak with groups and represent Student Life at events and activities;
- The ability to work independently while following instructions and established procedures; and
- The willingness to learn and adapt to new digital tools, platforms, and technologies.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a full-time student at MacEwan University, with a minimum of 18 credits completed in program of study.
- Must be in good academic standing with a minimum of 2.70 GPA.
- Experience creating content for social media.
- Experience using Microsoft and Google applications for everyday academic or project work.
- Familiarity with social media platforms or simple graphic design tools such as Instagram and Canva.
- A natural presence in front of the camera would be considered an asset.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
